Montenegro tour from Dubrovnik
Montenegro is a small country south of Dubrovnik. Kotor is a town in Montenegro which is on UNESCO‘s list. First it was a Greek village all the way from 3rd century BC, and afterwards Byzantine property through history.
Kotor bay has beautiful medieval towns of Risan, Tivat, Prčanj and Herceg Novi which are major tourist attractions. The region of Kotor has been a World Heritage site since 1979. The religious heritage of the land around the bay it is numerous Orthodox and Catholic churches and monasteries make it one of the major pilgrimage sites of the region.
On our way, we will have a boat ride to ver famous little island in front of Perast. Island and chapels were built in gratitude to Our Lady for the healing of one of the two brothers. On the cliffs (Škrpjel) in front of Perast, brothers Martesic found the picture of Our Lady in the 1452 year. In the honor of that people from Perast over the centuries were filling stones and sinking old sailing ships which increased the surface of the island. In the 15th century on the rocks, they built a chapel, in which was placed Our Lady picture. By the early 17th century they have sunk hundreds of vessels, among whom were captured Turkish ships. A Larger church was built in 1630, but it was damaged in an earthquake.
Budva is a town in Montenegro and its considered the oldest town on Mediterranean. Well known by lots of historical monuments, churches and forts. Near Budva is St. Stefan island which is connected to the coast and is the most luxury resort in Montenegro. Through history it was a fishing village, surrounded with city walls forming a fort. In 1955. it was transformed into a hotel and all the people moveed away so its just for tourists.
