A special culinary experience of Korčula
Have a unique culinary experience of Korčula with guides Rachel and John, two passionate travelers who fell in love with Korčula and left behind their life in England to live on this beautiful Dalmatian island. With their first-hand experience, local knowledge, and passionate approach they will take you on a special Korčula tour, where you will have a tasty brunch, try yourself in a cooking class, taste locally-produced olive oil, and try a variety of Kočula’s finest wines.
Not only will you get to see more of Korčula Island but you’ll also get a taste of it on this tour. Departing from Korčula Town we will first head to the town of Blato for a cooking lesson. At a local restaurant tucked behind the parish Church, you will get to make (and of course eat) the sweet doughnut-esque treat called “fritule”. They are incredibly moreish and make a tasty brunch!
From Blato we will travel to the furthest westerly town of Korčula called Vela Luka. Both Blato and Vela Luka are home to hundreds of olive trees, and olive oil from Korčula was recently protected by the European Commission. So where better to try this golden nectar, than from one of the producers on the island. We will stop at a family-run olive mill where you will learn about the production of olive oil, be able to see the equipment used in the process and be able to taste their oil.
Our next stop is to the village of Smokvica. Built on the hillside, this small dwelling looks over the valley of vineyards that lie in front of it. It is here that one of Croatia’s most popular white wines is grown, Posip. Although Posip is now grown in other parts of Croatia, it is here in the fields of Smokvica that the vine was first discovered in 1864. You will have the opportunity to taste the local Posip along with a variety of other wines grown in the village, which will be served with a variety of tasty appetizers. After we have finished our wine tasting we will return to Korčula Town.
