Greek gulet cruise route: Discover Sporades islands
Meeting for the transfer is Saturday at 4:30 and arriving at the gulet later on where a welcome drink and free dinner in one harbor tavern at beautiful Athens is waiting for you. Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece the birthplace of Western civilization. You will have a free evening to explore the town and the local way of life, or perhaps if you want you can explore the historic parts of this town, in which case we would recommend visiting Acropolis.
Sunday morning we sail to the small beautiful island of Pontikonissi for the lunch stop in a beautiful little cove. This is truly a tiny island where some fishermen often come to unravel their nets. You won’t find houses, only a lighthouse comes to testify of the human presence so we can honestly say this is a perfect place for you to relax and get away from large crowds in pursuit for a more private location. After lunch, you will have plenty of time to enjoy swimming, snorkeling and various watersports that will be available on board. This will be the rhythm of most of your cruise days. In the afternoon we arrive at Skopelos, West Coast Port. Unspoiled island life; unpretentious food and quiet beaches with mountainous are things that are characteristic for this place. Here the small hilltop village of Glossa is worth visit and often offers remarkable sunsets and breathtaking views.
Monday, heading to Alonissos, considered as one of the islands of Greece possessing the most clear sea. This island is not often expounded on in travel guides so you instantly sense the private atmosphere and relaxing appeal. The colors of the sea, sky, pine and olive trees, and the architectural style, immediately‚enchat you. If there is no bad weather, we go to the north of Skopelos, which offers us the little bay of Agios Ioannis, with its chapel on a rocky peak emerging from the sea, where was shot the wedding of the movie “Mamma mia” with Meryl Streep. Also, Alonissos and the surrounding islets have a seal protection marine park and with some luck, on our hands, we can see them but dolphins are more common. At the top of Alonissos, Chora is a beautiful little village with cafes overlooking the Sporades Islands. You will find a lot of local artists’ shops: beautiful but more touristy than other villages that we will have the opportunity to visit.
On Tuesday, after swim stop and breakfast on some beautiful cove along the way, we will arrive at the main port of Skopelos. It is one of the most beautiful cities of our islands with narrow streets and rising cobblestones filled with flowerpots. Skopelos has many scenic beaches from pebbly to sandy and some excellent tavernas in the harbor. This is an ideal day for spending days resting on the beach, trying some local food, enjoying in watersports and perhaps going for romantic walks. The whole day will be very easy going and you will have lots of time for yourself.
Wednesday we finish the tour of Skopelos through the south and we stop at noon at the village of Agnontas, named after the Olympic champion of the island who is always honored. Eye-catching landscapes; azure waters on golden coasts and a pure island atmosphere will amaze you. There, the pines literally touch the sea and the sunset is the absolutely magical and most romantic thing you might see. Besides that Agnontas is a fishing port, with fishermen that every night goes out into the open sea to catch fish that you can enjoy at one of its many fish taverns. The 2 taverns of the port offer really nice menus and those who wish to try some lobsters might find what they want here. If the weather and wind permits we will spend the night in the beautiful bay of Panormos, surrounded by pines, or in an island preceding Skiathos.
You will arrive at Skiathos in morning hours when it comes the time to visit the city and do some shopping and exploring, but we do not stay there for the night, because we want to avoid the noise of the discotheques of this most touristy part of Sporades. This is one of the most popular islands of the Sporades since it has so much to offer to people of all ages. Skiathos became even more popular after movie Mamma Mia has created a sort of mass-hysteria as people who loved the movie come here and to Skopelos depicted in the film. Either way here you can enjoy in unspoiled nature until we head for the Pelion that will charm you even before reaching the tiny port of Agia Kiriaki for a calm overnight stay.
After Skiathos, we are heading for some more traditional authentic Greece, far from the tourist places. Otherwise Friday, after a last long stop in a bay, we return to the port of Orei, the ancient maritime city Histiaea, filled with traditional simple taverns filled with good tasty Greek food. Relax on the beach or on the gulet with your favorite book in hands and forget about problems of everyday life.
