SUNDAY: Knidos-Ince Burun-Datca
You’ll sail to Knidos to explore the many ancient ruins which remain from this former Dorian capital and center to medicine and therapy. Knidos was one of the largest ports in antiquity, with one harbor facing the Aegean and one south opening to the Mediterranean (Praxiteles, one of the greatest sculptors of the ancient world, caused much outrage with his nude statue of Aphrodite, bringing in even more ships and wealth to this number of the Dorian Hexapolis).
The harbor has excellent waters for swimming and snorkeling. Later in a day, you’ll sail down to Ince Burun for lunch, swimming, canoeing and relaxing. In the afternoon the yacht continues to the small port town of Datca. The inland ”old Datca” village, a few km from the harbor, is well worth a walk through its paved narrow streets winding their way around old stone houses. Near old Datca, there is a beautifully restored Ottoman mansion now a hotel-museum ”The Mehmet Ali Aga Mansion”, where you might be tempted to have a drink or a meal. Overnight in Datca or a bay nearby.
