Explore the amazing island of Kos
We begin our tour on foot visiting the “Plane Tree of Hippocrates”, one of the oldest surviving trees in Europe, located in an idyllic square surrounded by the Medieval Castle of Neratzia, the Old Italian Administration Command and the 18th-century mosque of “Haji-Hasan”. It is a visual path through the history and cultures of the past.
Shortly after we get on the bus and have a guided drive through the rest of Kos significant archeological and historical sites up to our next stop “Asclepiion”.
Build in various chronological stages from the century B.C. to the early Roman occupation of the island, the “Asklipiion”, Temple of the God of Medicine, Asklipios, served all through the antiquity also as a hospital.
Situated on the slopes of Mount Dikeos, the site also offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Kos and the surrounding islands and the coast of Asia Minor.
Leaving the “Asklipiion” behind, we drive up through the mountain district of the island through the forestry. Next stop will be Zia, a traditional small village with its stone houses and imposing Orthodox Churches. Narrow streets, filled with the aromas of various herbs and baharats, the welcoming faces of the elderly and the small cafes where time seems to stop several decades ago.
From Zia we continue our Tour to Pyli an adjoin village where the synonymous spring can found. Built during the Ottoman period, the spring has faucets and various Islamic inscriptions.
Taking the road down to the plains, we make an optional stop at one of the local wineries for a small wine tasting among the local varieties of wines before getting back to the port.
