Things to do while on a yachting holiday in South Pacific

LIONESS-V-1

Activities on a yacht

Cruising on a private yacht offers a large variety of activities. To start with, there are many options onboard the yacht. Besides just relaxing in the jacuzzi, sunbathing, reading your favorite book, or listening to your favorite music or audiobook, there is plenty more to choose from.

Some yachts have gym areas available, to maintain that summer shape and wake up your body and mind in the morning. Yoga and meditation are also popular on a yacht deck. With that ocean view all around you every day, it is hard to find a better place to relax, stretch, and listen to the sound of the ocean.

For some more active water activities besides swimming, you could try yourself at water skiing or wakeboarding, maybe a banana or donut riding as well. Why not taking the snorkeling equipment, jumping on the paddleboard and exploring the bays and underwater world. There are definitely plenty of unique things to see down there.

Besides the activities mentioned above, here are some more, most popular things you could do during your holidays in the South Pacific Islands: Fiji, for example, has quite a lot to offer. There is a national park called Vidawa Forest. The forest is home to some of the unique species of the region such as the fruit bats. It is beautiful to see these little guys enjoying their own peace in their own forest.

Evenings offer some more cultural experiences. Local light up their torches and perform their national dance, which is called Meke. As you would imagine, they dress in their native outfits, skirts, and grass made accessories and dance to the rhythm of drum beats. I suggest you carefully monitor those steps, as you might be invited to join and learn with them.

Our favorite thing about South Pacific is the year-round warm weather all year round. It is recommended to travel between April and October, as there can be some heavy showers from November to March.

Temperatures tend to average a high of 31°C through the year and usually don't drop below 26°C.

Just 3-4 hours from Australia’s east coast, getting to Fiji is almost as easy as taking a domestic flight. Direct international flights from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne arrive daily at Nadi International Airport and connect with select transfers to Denarau and the Coral Coast.

Children won't mind the 3-4 hour flight it takes to get to most destinations in the South Pacific Islands. There are a lot of activities to choose from, therefore children will love it there. There are activities available on your yacht as well as on the islands you will visit.

The Fijian culture is amongst the most laid back and happiest in the world! Despite this, it’s still important to respect local customs and traditions. Visitors should dress modestly when not at the hotels or resorts. In some areas, wearing a hat can be considered insulting to the chief and it’s also offensive to touch someone’s head or to wear shoes when visiting someone’s house. Always take a gift on your village tours. This can be something inexpensive—it may be as simple as crayons or coloring books for the children, kava for the adults, or some second-hand clothes!

There are exchange offices scattered all over the larger islands. You will find ATM machines as well if you need some cash for daily activities and souvenirs. Major credits are accepted at most resorts as well. It is advisable to double-check to which Islands you plan to travel and exchange money in their currencies beforehand. Even though there are exchange offices on bigger islands, the smaller islands aren’t commercialized and there are very few, if any, currency exchange services.

Yes. Even though there are good medical facilities with hospitals and lab facilities in all principal cities and towns of bigger islands, it is still advisable to have travel insurance. There are many private clinics and dental facilities with well-trained staff throughout the islands as well. Services are relatively inexpensive by US standards. The farther you go from principal cities, the more basic the services available.

Relaxed. This is the home of the “friendliest people on earth.” It’s not an advertising line. It’s a feeling that has to be experienced to be appreciated.
