Galešnjak – Love Island

Galešnjak is one of those places that you saw on postcards or when your friend posted a picture. You are not mistaken. It is the heart. The heart that jealously protects its Pašman for thousands of years. Throughout the world, there are only three islands in the shape of a heart, but only Galešnjak never changes its shape. Neither the winter low tides nor strong tides, a not even strong wind called “bura” of Velebit, didn’t manage to find a way to harm this beauty.

Beaches

Ugljan has more than 20 km of diverse shore with many small or big coves with crystal clear sea and untouched nature, Suitable for swimming, scuba diving, and boat excursions. Pašman Island abounds with innumerable beaches with the crystally clean sea surrounding it from all sides. Apart from the mentioned beaches, there are numerous hidden bays for those who wish to hide and enjoy the intimate and untouched nature that provides the island of Pašman. Some of the beaches are Mostar, Ćinta, Suha, Ždrelac, Banj and etc.

 

St. Hieronymus Monastery in Ugljan

In the centre of the town, there is a beautiful building on the sandy beach of Mostar. The convent was build in 1430. with the simple gothic church of St Hieronymus consecrated in 1447. The architect is Juraj Lukači-Zavaliska. In the cloister of the convent, there is a decorated tombstone of the founder of Glagolitic print shop in Rijeka, the bishop Simun Kozičić-Benja ( 1460-1536).

 

Church of St. Kosmas and St. Damien in Ugljan

Build in the 11th  or 12th century in late pre-Romanic style. The legend says that the merchant Torricella built it, who was saved in a shipwreck and who swim to that place. It is the oldest church in Ugljan. It is placed in the docile cove of Ljokina, and there is a path leading to it, ideal for cyclists and pedestrians.

The Parish Church of the Nativity of  the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pašman

According to the tradition and vicar of the parish church, the first church of Pašman was its present presbytery, blessed on the 7th August in 806 by Saint-Donat, the bishop of Zadar. That church was later renovated expanded and that is today’s church dating from 1885.

Castle Califf

Califf Castle is a 17th-century castle on the Croatian island of Ugljan, located in the heart of the city of Ugljan. The castle was built by the Califfi family in the 17th century. The Berčić family from Zadar acted as stewards of the castle, and the castle eventually took on their name. More recently the castle has been restored and carries the name Dvor Krešimir Ćosić after the former Croatian basketball star.

 

The Church of St. Francis and the Franciscan Monastery of St. Domnius in Pašman

As one of the most recognizable cultural monuments of Pasman Island, the Monastery of Saint Domnius is located along with the so-named church in Kraj. Noblewoman Peregrina donated the church along with the property and associated facilities to the Franciscans expelled from Bosnia.

 

Ancient Christian Memorial

The central space is surrounded by apse and exedra. In the West, there is a hall ( Prothyron) from which you enter the martyrium. In the lapses, there are sarcophaguses with bodies of martyrs, and the floors are decorated with multi-colour mosaics ( today in the archaeological museum of Zadar). This memorial also has rooms added on the side, and the oldest building is the second half of the 4th century.

The Kornati National Park covers the bigger part of the Kornati waters. Because of their exceptional landscape beauty, interesting geomorphology, highly jagged and indented coast as well as because of rich communities of the submarine eco-system, the islands were made a national park in 1980. 

The Kornati archipelago, as a separate and special island group located between Šibenik and Zadar islands, covers an area of about 320 km2 and includes about 150 land units, located either permanently or frequently above the sea.
