Dalyan, and Iztuzu Beach
Dalyan was a fishing village, now growing as people discover its charm, set on the riverbanks. The word ‘dalyan’ means fishtraps, that were on the river’s waterways between the vast Koyceğiz Lake and the sea. A natural conservation area ringed by spectacular mountains, it is overlooked by the hilltop site of ancient Caunos, and the tomb temples set in the cliffs. A journey of about 45 minutes by private boat through the natural waterways reaches the 7 km long sand bar, Iztuzu Beach, also known as Turtle Beach, one of the last breeding grounds for the endangered Caretta Caretta, or loggerhead turtles.
