If someone were to ask me years ago, where do I see myself career-wise, sales wouldn’t be the first answer. As a student of international relations, my first abstract thought of a “career” was either in diplomacy or finance. At the same time, I was always obsessed with boats ever since I was a child. I loved strolling through the marina of Vrsar, Croatia, where my family owns a weekend house. I remember thinking to myself: “How does one step into this world from the outside?”Unfortunately, I never made it further than that in my youth.
After college, I realized that work in the administration is not for me and I proceeded to look for a job in finance where I received my baptism of fire in terms of poor customer service, false marketing exuberant pricing and an all-around lack of quality service.
However, this experience made me absolutely determined to put my clients’ interests first no matter what (not common practice in our country).
After a few months of figuring out what direction I should take I received a phone call from Mitja with whom I briefly worked as a student.
Mitja was the first person who introduced me to sales and entrepreneurship. He was also the first person I met that always emphasized personal growth and lifelong learning. And through years of learning, I adopted a simple principle. When making a deal, ask yourself a simple question: “Would I sell this to my mother?” A principle I asked myself every day when working in finance and a principle I practice every day.
Because I really enjoyed working with Mitja in the past, I was curious about the purpose of our meeting.
